Munday Centennial Plans
Munday residents are working hard to plan our centennial celebration scheduled for Saturday, June 24th, 2006. This marks the 100th birthday of Munday's incorporation. Our actual beginning was closer to 1894 when the first post office was established. However, our 50 year jubilee was celebrated in 1956 and the 2006 Centennial date corresponds to that. We can only assume that, since the 1944 date would have come during WWII, it was impractical to celebrate that date. The next generation can decide whether to celebrate the sesquicentennial in 2044 or 2056. Many of us won't be around to debate the issue.
Even in you live far away, you can help to make this celebration a success. A special Centennial Fund account has been set up at the First National Bank in Munday. All donations will be used to pay for the Centennial play production costs and other expenses. All labor is volunteer. The number for FNB Munday is 940-422-4522. Sandy King is the contact.*
